8:45am

Meet with head teacher (HT) and staff at Sophie’s school. Give full explanation of the disease and provide information leaflets. Help the HT write a letter to send to all parents telling them about the disease, reassuring them that there is no increased risk to their children and inviting them to attend a meeting at the school.

9:15am

Inform all local GPs who have students at the school. Speak to school nurse; she will come to meetings at the school tomorrow and give support to any concerned parents, students or staff.

4:00pm

Receive a call from Frances, reporter on the local paper, who wants to know about the case. Confirm there has been a case but give no personal details - agree to do an interview tomorrow afternoon.

4:45pm

Two very worried parents of students who were at the disco telephone my office. Further information and reassurance given..
