Public health diary

Sunday 5th August

8:10am

Amy’s Mum returns call. We have a full discussion about the disease, I explain that Amy is at low risk but we must make sure that the bacteria, if present in Amy’s throat, are killed. Informed that year 10 had a disco on Friday night. Mental note to discuss this when I meet with Sophie and her parents later.

8:20am

Telephone on-call GP to inform him there is a case and there may be calls from concerned parents.

10:30am

Visit the hospital to see Sophie and her parents, she is doing well. Explain the disease in detail. Have a private discussion with Sophie about the disco and she tells me she had kissing contact with her boyfriend. Promises to tell her boyfriend to ring me when he visits at lunchtime (he will need antibiotics).

Midday

Sophie’s boyfriend phones – more explanations of the disease. He will contact his GP surgery today to get antibiotics
