Informed that Sophie has been admitted to the local hospital with suspected meningococcal disease. She is seriously ill, but stable. The following steps have been taken at the hospital:
- Dr Smith has sent specimens to the laboratory for testing.
- Dr Smith has spoken to Sophie’s parents, who are distressed but coping well.
- Mum, Dad, 12 year old brother Andrew and Amy (a friend who stayed in Sophie’s home last Wednesday) are listed as close contacts and have been given a two day course of antibiotics.
