Recovering after meningitis

Everyone's experience of meningitis or meningococcal septicaemia is different and no one will have been through exactly the same things as you.  Your recovery or after-effects will be unique to you too.

Recovering from a major illness can take time, even if you have made good progress and are back at home.  It can be frustrating when you want to get back to doing all your normal things, but your body won't let you.  It is not unusual to feel really tired and emotional, but in time it should get better.

Family and friends may also be affected by your illness, so talk to them and share your feelings, this can really help your recovery and help them to understand your needs too.

Most people who have had meningitis or meningococcal septicaemia do get better, even if they have been really ill.  Recovery can take time, with some people taking longer than others to get back to doing all their normal activities.
