For Teachers
Meningitis and meningococcal disease remain an important cause
of death in children and young adults up to the age of 20 years.
Teenagers and young adults aged 14 -19 years of age are the group
second most at risk from meningococcal disease, therefore, the information
contained on this site is important to you and your students.
Most of us are poorly informed about meningitis, its symptoms, treatment
and after-effects. This website is designed by the Meningitis Trust
Education Team to help you improve your background knowledge and
apply that knowledge in the classroom or through school management.
The site also offers you an opportunity of using some ready-made
lesson and project topics which will help you incorporate meningitis
and its surrounding issues into the curriculum – particularly in PSHE, Citizenship,
Media Studies and Science at Key
Stages 3 & 4.
Helping Students to Deal with Bereavement
It can be a very difficult situation when a pupil or member of
staff within a school dies. Does your school have any structure
in place to help students and staff if such an event occurs? Here
Dr Phillip Rees gives an insight into understanding and helping
students dealing with bereavement.
